Dortmund beat Freiburg 4:0 – Haaland once again shines

It was a very interesting weekend in the German Bundesliga. Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg in the third round match of the League.

The match in Dortmund ended with a score of 4-0. Erling Haaland once again proved why he is one of the best forwards right now in the world, scoring two goals (on 31st and 66th minutes). Former Liverpool player Emre Can (47) and Felix Passlack (90th) have also scored second and fourth goals respectively.

Borussia Dortmund are the opponents of Lazio, Brugge, and Zenit in the group stage of the Champions League. The first match of Dortmund will be held on October 28 in Germany.

Haaland is dominating

It was the third and fourth goal in total that Haaland scored during this season of Bundesliga. The 20-years-old Norwegian who was signed at the end of December 2019 has already managed to establish himself as one of the leaders of the team alongside Giovanni Reyna and Jadon Sancho.

While Haaland indeed attracts a lot of attention from his homeland, we should note that this match was unique in terms of the interest it got from Norway. One of the best rated Norwegian online bookmakers received a huge amount of bets from customers, because of the ongoing discussion that is taking place in Norway about unifying gambling laws. The country is looking forward to reforming this industry and there is a lot to happen in the future.

Reyna’s 3 assists, Bellingham and Reus

We have mentioned Haaland and his perfect play, but we should not neglect another very promising American youngster Giovanni Reyna who is a son of a former player Claudio Reyna. Reyna who has only 17 snatched 3 assists and is already a leading player of the team. The United States has a perfect generation including Sergiño Dest, Reyna, Konrad de la Fuente, and others.

Jude Bellingham, another very promising English player, looked good in the game. He is also 17 so we can say that the future ahead of Dortmund is very bright, if the team manages to keep key players. For example, Jadon Sancho is on the radar of Manchester United and even though the deal looks unlikely to be materialized, we all know that the Englishman will not remain in Borussia for long.

As for Marco Reus, the veteran German is still a pivotal figure for the club. Reus, whose career was hampered by injuries, is still a formidable player in the attack, and the experience he provides to young players deserves huge credit.

Dortmund currently sit at the fifth place after 3 matches – losing only one against Augsburg. They are going to face Hoffenheim in the fourth round, which will take place after a 2 weeks break, where national teams will have matches.

What happened in other matches?

In other matches, phenomenal Robert Lewandowski scored 4 goals, in a 4:3 win against Hertha, including an injury-time penalty. Polish Lewandowsky who was a heavy favorite to win Ballon d’Or once again proves that he is in top form. But the rest of the Bayern players look very tired. We saw that against Hoffenheim where Hansi Flick’s side was trashed 1:4.

Schalke continued their unsuccessful run against Leipzig, losing 4:0. Schalke, which fired David Wagner due to bad results, struggled a lot in the German Bundesliga.

Eintracht moved to third place by defeating Hoffenheim 2:1. We should note that Leipzig, Eintracht, and Augsburg are the 3 leaders currently of the German Bundesliga. All of them have seven points and we should anticipate a very interesting follow-up of events in the next rounds.
